Police investigate after pedestrian hit – Tamworth

Police are investigating after a woman was hit by a ute in the State’s New England region yesterday.

Shortly before 6pm (Monday 20 June 2016), emergency services were called to New England Highway, Tamworth, following reports a woman had been struck by a ute.

NSW Ambulance Paramedics treated a 37-year-old woman at the scene, before taking her to Tamworth Hospital in a critical condition.

She was later airlifted to John Hunter Hospital.

The driver of the ute, a 50-year-old man, was not injured during the incident.

He was taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.

Officers attached to Oxley Local Area Command, with the assistance of the Crash Investigation Unit, established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.

Police have seized a white Mazda Dual Cab ute for forensic examination.

Inquiries into the incident are continuing and police are urging anyone with information to contact Tamworth Police Station on 02 6768 2999.

Men charged over alleged hydroponic cannabis house – Wallsend

Police have charged three men following the execution of a search warrant in Newcastle yesterday.

About 8.40pm on Sunday 19 June 2016, officers from Newcastle City Local Area Command attended a home on Irving Street, Wallsend, and executed a search warrant.

Police allegedly located a hydroponic system containing 129 cannabis plants inside the home and 132 cut cannabis plants and leaf inside a van parked on the driveway of the premises.

Following further inquiries, about 4.10pm yesterday (Sunday 19 June 2016), police arrested a 32-year-old man; a 24-year-old man and a 48-year-old man where they were taken to Newcastle Police Station.

They were charged with cultivate prohibited plant, greater than commercial quantity and possess prohibited plant.

All three men were refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on (Monday 27 June 2016).

Inquiries are continuing.

The Hume Local Area Command launches ‘Dob in a Dealer’ as state-wide campaign continues

A state-wide campaign aimed at mobilising members of the public in the fight against ‘ice’ will arrive in The Hume Local Area Command (LAC) today.

The ‘Dob in a Dealer’ campaign has been initiated and funded by the Commonwealth Government, and is currently taking place in States and Territories across Australia.

In NSW, the campaign is being held in 21 LACs across the state, over a six-month period between March and September 2016.

It will run in each LAC for two weeks, during which police and Crime Stoppers will conduct community-engagement activities designed to educate the public on the dangers of illicit drugs and how they can show their support for the campaign.

These activities will also highlight the important role members of the public have in helping police to shut down drug-manufacturing syndicates and arrest drug suppliers.

During the campaign, residents across The Hume LAC will be urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the online portal, where they can report drug-dealing activities anonymously.

While members of the public are encouraged to report any prohibited-drug activity via Crime Stoppers, the focus of the ‘Dob in a Dealer’ campaign is the production, distribution and use of ‘ice’ (crystal methylamphetamine).

Two charged in drug investigation – Albury

Police have charged two men after search warrants targeting drug and firearm offences in the state’s south.

Strike Force Plumb was formed by the Albury Drug Unit to investigate persons involved in methamphetamine supply in the Albury area.

About 1pm on Friday (17 June 2016), police from the Strike Force executed a search warrant at an address on Prune Street, Lavington.

Inside the home officers allegedly located an amount of amphetamine, cash, a BB, gun and ammunition, mobile phones, as well as drug paraphernalia.

About 1.10pm the same day, police arrested a 24-year-old man while he was reporting for bail at Albury Police Station.

Following his arrest, police executed a search warrant at his home on Chenery Street, Glenroy. Inside the home, police allegedly located an amount of drug precursor material.

About 2pm, police attended another property in Bowna, where they arrested a 23-year-old man.

Inside the home police allegedly located firearm components, as well as an amount of methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia.

Further information led police to a storage facility in Airport Park, where they allegedly located a shortened firearm, ammunition, an amount of crystal methamphetamine (‘ice’), as well as an amount of cash.

As a result of these warrants, the 24-year-old man was charged with over 40 drug supply charges, as well as possess shortened firearm, proceeds of crime offences, and police pursuit, which relates on an incident on 11 May 2016.

He was refused bail to appear at Albury Local Court tomorrow (Monday 20 June 2016).

The 23-year-old was charged with five counts of supply prohibited drug, possess shortened firearm, give shortened firearm to other, and possess prohibited drug.

He was also refused bail to appear at Albury Local Court tomorrow (Monday 20 June 2016).

Investigations by the Strike Force continue and further charges are likely.

Man critical after being hit by car – Port Stephens

A man was critically injured after being hit by a car at Fern Bay, near Port Stephens, overnight.

About 7pm (Friday 17 June 2017), emergency services attended Nelson Bay Road after receiving reports a man had been hit by a car.

It appears a Toyota sedan travelling north on Nelson Bay Road struck the man as he was walking along the road in the same direction.

The driver of the car stopped and rendered assistance until the arrival of Ambulance Paramedics. The man was taken to John Hunter Hospital and remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the car was subjected to mandatory blood and urine testing.

A crime scene was established and investigations are continuing.

Teen critical after being struck by car – Newcastle

A teenager has suffered critical head injuries after being struck by a car while crossing the road in Lambton overnight.

About 1.30am (Saturday 18 June 2016), a 16-year-old boy was crossing at the intersection of Griffith Road and Acacia Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle travelling on Griffiths Road.

The boy suffered critical head injuries and was taken to John Hunter Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle, who stopped and rendered assistance, was also taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.

Officers from Newcastle City will continue their investigations and would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the crash.

Police appeal for missing man – Newcastle

Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate a man missing in Newcastle since early yesterday morning.

About 1.30am (Thursday 16 June 2016), the 20-year-old Jackson Baker was with his girlfriend at a nightclub on Centennary Road, when he left the location alone.

When his girlfriend failed to contact him the next day, she contacted police.

Officers attached to Newcastle City Local Area Command commenced a search for Jackson; however he has not been seen or heard from since.

Jackson’s family and police hold concerns for his welfare, as his disappearance is out of character.

Jackson is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 180cm tall, with brown short hair.

He was last seen wearing a green jacket, a grey and dark green striped t-shirt, cream trousers and grey ‘Nike’ shoes.

Police are following a number of lines of inquiry, including whether Jackson may have gone swimming alone in Newcastle Harbour in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Anyone who knows of Jackson’s whereabouts is urged to contact Newcastle City Police via Crime Stoppers.

Man charged with murder – Lake Macquarie

A man is due to appear in Newcastle Local Court today charged with murder.
Detectives attached to Lake Macquarie Local Area Command established Strike Force Retractor to investigate the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of a 28-year-old Christopher Daunt.

The Newcastle man disappeared in April 2015.

Investigators executed a search warrant yesterday (Thursday 16 June 2016) at a home on Elaine Street, Rankin Park.

A number of items were seized and will undergo forensic examination.

Police arrested a 33-year-old man at the premises and he was taken to Belmont Police Station.

The man was later charged with murder.

He was refused bail and will appear at Newcastle Local Court today (Friday 17 June 2016).

Investigators continue with their inquiries and will today further examine human remains located at Seahampton.

Police appeal for information after man stabbed – Gateshead (Lake Macquarie)

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the stabbing of man in Lake Macquarie yesterday.

About 1.30pm (Thursday 16 June 2016), emergency services were called to a home on Oxford Street, Gateshead following reports a man had been stabbed.

A 25-year-old man was treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics at the scene before being taken to John Hunter Hospital with several lacerations to his arms and legs, and a severed finger.

Man charged over alleged assault – Belmont North

A man has been charged in relation to an alleged assault which occurred at Belmont North last month.

Just before 9.30am on Sunday 15 May 2016, police and emergency services attended Green Street following reports a 26-year-old man was unconscious with head injuries.

The man was taken by NSW Ambulance Paramedics to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.

Police from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command established a crime scene and commenced investigations into the incident.

On Tuesday (14 June 2016), a 23-year-old man was arrested on unrelated matters.

Following further inquiries, he was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was also charged common assault (DV) and intimidation for an alleged separate incident.

The man was refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court today (Wednesday 15 June 2016).
