BMW driver faces court after allegedly reaching 240km/h near Goulburn

A 23-year-old man will face court after allegedly driving at 240km/h in a BWM M5 sedan on the Hume Highway near Goulburn.

The man, who was denied bail on Wednesday, has been charged with causing a police pursuit, possessing prohibited drugs and resisting arrest.

According to NSW police, the man was observed driving at 194km/h and failed to stop for officers attempted to pull him over.

Police eventually abandoned the pursuit when the car continued to accelerate to around 240km/h.

Officers later found the car in Berrimangra with a passenger also inside.

Police allege the driver attempted to drive away when approached by officers, although the car broke down after 100 metres.

The man will return to court on February 26.

Police have also called on a truck driver who reported the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 to provide further information.

Police appeal after teen approached by naked man – Port Stephens

Police are appealing for witnesses after a naked man approached a teenage girl near Port Stephens last month.

About 2.30pm, Thursday 21 January 2016, two 15-year-old girls were at Boat Harbour beach, 15km south of Port Stephens, when one of the teens went for a swim.

A short time later she got out of the water onto the rocks, when a naked man approached her.

He sat down beside her, before the other girl approached them and the man walked away.

As the girls left the area they saw the man committing a lewd act.

The pair walked home and informed one of their fathers, who contacted police.

Officers from Port Stephens Local Area Command attended and commenced an investigation.

Police patrolled the area but could not locate the man.

As inquiries into the incident continue, police have released an image of a man who may be able to assist them.

He is depicted in the image as being of Caucasian appearance, aged between 50 and 60, with grey hair, solid build and wearing a black baseball cap.

Investigators are also appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone who may have information that will assist with their inquiries, to come forward.

Man charged with 30 offences following Robbery and Serious Crime Squad investigation

Strike force detectives have charged a further man over a number of alleged robberies and other offences in the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Moree areas.

Strike Force Lockwood was established by State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad to investigate numerous robberies and break and enters in 2012, as well as the alleged supply of firearms.

They have also been investigating an incident where a shot was fired at police during a pursuit through Dora Creek and Cooranbong in December 2012.

Following extensive inquiries, a 31-year-old man was arrested at Parramatta Police Station on Tuesday (9 February 2016) and charged with the following offences:

– Aggravated break, enter and steal (11 counts);

– Supply prohibited drug (seven counts);

– Robbery whilst armed with dangerous weapon;

– Possess unregistered firearm;

– Supply firearm (three counts);

– Fire firearm at building;

– Participate in criminal group;

– Larceny;

– Receive property from theft (two counts);

– Conspiracy to commit aggravated break enter with intent; and

– Conspiracy to commit robbery while armed with dangerous weapon.

The man will appear in Parramatta Local Court today (Thursday 11 February 2016).
A number of people arrested previously by Strike Force Lockwood detectives remain before the court.

Investigations are continuing.

Man charged with possessing child abuse material – Wagga Wagga

A man has been charged with possessing child abuse material after a search was carried out at a home at Glenfield Park, near Wagga Wagga.

Just before 12pm on Monday 23 November 2015, investigators attached to Wagga Wagga Local Area Command executed a search warrant at a residence in Glenfield Park.

Several items including laptop computers, mobile telephones, electronic storage devices and DVDs were seized for forensic analysis. Police will allege they also located an amount of cannabis leaf and a water pipe.

Following investigations, about 12pm yesterday (Wednesday 10 February 2016), detectives attended a home in Glenfield Park and arrested a 39-year-old man.

He was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station and charged with several offences:

– Possess child abuse material (x2);

– Possess prohibited drug; and

– Possession of equipment for administering prohibited drugs.

The man was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Wagga Wagga Local Court on Wednesday 6 April 2016.

 

Driver charged after pursuit – Goulburn

A man will appear in court this month charged with a number of offences following an alleged pursuit in Goulburn last year.

Police will allege in court that just before 6.30am on Monday 9 November 2015, officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were conducting speed enforcement duties on the Hume Highway, Goulburn, when they detected a BMW M5 sedan travelling at 194km/h.

Officers activated their lights and sirens and followed the vehicle; however, the driver failed to stop.

The BMW allegedly reached speeds of up to 240km/h, and the pursuit was terminated for safety reasons.
During the pursuit, police received information from a truck driver who witnessed the incident, via the UHF radio.
Officers continued their patrols and found the BMW sedan on Westbourne Road, Berrimangra, with two people inside the car.

It will be alleged in court that when police approached the car, the driver began to drive away, however his vehicle broke down after about 100 metres.

A 23-year-old man has been charged with police pursuit (Skye’s Law), possess prohibited drug (x2) and resist officer in execution of duty. He has been refused bail and is due to attend court again on Friday 26 February 2016.

Police have released images of a car on the basis that it might be recognised by the truck driver who provided information via the radio during the pursuit. The truck driver can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Missing teen located safe and well – Kotara

Police would like to thank the public and media for their assistance after a teenager who went missing from Kotara yesterday afternoon was found safe and well this morning.

The 19-year-old man was last seen walking from his home on Rodway Street at Kotara about 4.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 9 February 2016).

Following an extensive search by officers from Newcastle City Local Area Command he was found safe and well at 9.30am this morning.

Police would like to thank the public and the media for their assistance.

Police appeal to help locate missing teen – Kotara

Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate a teenager who went missing from Kotara yesterday afternoon.

Matthew Kiely, aged 19, was last seen walking from his home on Rodway Street at Kotara bout 4.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 9 February 2016).

Officers attached to Newcastle City Local Area Command have been told Matthew left his home and was seen walking toward Kotara South Public School.

Police were notified after his parents searched the area and were unable to locate him.

There are serious concerns for Matthew due to significant medical conditions, including communication difficulties, which require ongoing treatment.

Matthew is described as being of Caucasian appearance with a fair complexion, about 155-160cm tall, with light brown hair, facial hair and of a small build.

He was last seen wearing a light-blue t-shirt, dark shorts and thongs.

The missing person is known to frequent areas in Gateshead and Cessnock.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Two charged over break and enters – The Hume LAC

Two men have been charged with numerous break and enter offences after an investigation in the southern highlands.
Between 4 and 12 December 2015, eleven break and enter offences occurred in the towns of Gunning, Gundaroo, Murrumbateman and Jeir.

On 13 December 2015 two 23-year-old men were arrested and charged after an alleged attempted carjacking and pursuit during which shots were fired at police.

Both men have been in custody since that time.

Following investigations, on Monday 2 February 2016, one of the men was charged with eleven counts of aggravated, break enter and steal (in company). He is next due to appear at Goulburn Local Court tomorrow (10 February 2016).

About10am today (Tuesday 9 February 2016), the other 23-year-old man was also charged with eleven counts of aggravated break, enter and steal (in company).

Police seek information to locate Todd Burns – Newcastle City LAC

Police are appealing for information to locate a man wanted on an outstanding warrant.

Todd Burns, 24, has an outstanding arrest warrant for revocation of parole. His whereabouts are not currently known.

Burns is described as being as being 180 to 185cm tall, fair completion, medium build with black hair.

He is known to frequent, Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Hunter Valley areas.
