Police dismantle drug network – Newcastle

Four people are due in court today following a police operation targeting an alleged drug supply syndicate in the Newcastle area.

Strike Force Rupas, comprising detectives from Newcastle City, Central Hunter and Lake Macquarie, was formed to investigate the supply of illicit drugs.

Investigations culminated in the arrest and charging of four people yesterday (Monday 27 July 2015).

A 29-year old man and a 43-year-old man were charged at Waratah Police Station with supply large commercial quantity of a prohibited drug (ecstasy), and supply indictable quantity of a prohibited drug (cocaine and methylamphetamine).

A 42-year-old man was charged with supply commercial quantity of a prohibited drug (ecstasy), and two counts of supply prohibited drug (methylamphetamine and cocaine).

A 23-year-old man was charged with supply prohibited drug (cocaine).

All have been refused bail and will appear in Newcastle Local Court today (Tuesday 28 July 2015).

Man charged over alleged firearms offences – Hunter Region

A man will face court today after allegedly being found in possession of unauthorised firearms in the Hunter Region yesterday.

About 2.30pm (Sunday 26 July 2015), police were called to a home on Third Street, Weston, following reports of an armed man in the yard.

Police from Central Hunter Local Area Command attended and attempted to speak with the man, who allegedly refused to cooperate.

About 3.20pm, the 32-year-old Weston man exited the garage and was arrested without incident.

No one was injured during the operation.

Following a search of the property, police located and seized two air rifles and various types of ammunition.

The man was taken to Maitland Police Station and charged with unauthorised possession of firearms, not keep firearms safe, and possess ammunition without holding a licence or permit.

He has been refused bail and is due to appear at Maitland Local Court today (Monday 27 July 2015).

Police appeal after teen assaulted – Newcastle

Police have appealed for information from the community after a teenage boy was assaulted in Newcastle following a minor motor vehicle crash last week.

About 11pm on Friday 24 July 2015 a 17-year-old boy reversed his vehicle from a parking spot at Strezlecki Lookout, The Hill.

Police have been told that the teenager struck a Toyota Hilux that caused minor damage to his own vehicle only.

The male driver of the Toyota Hilux then struck the teenager several times through the open window of his car.

Immediately the boy drove to Newcastle Police Station and reported the incident.

Unfortunately the boy was unable to obtain the registration details for the other vehicle.

Police from Newcastle City Local Area Command have commenced an investigation into the incident have appealed for anyone with information about the vehicle or its driver to come forward.

The vehicle is described only as a white Toyota Hilux utility.

The driver has been described to police as being of Caucasian appearance, 35-years-old and190cm tall with a solid build.

At the time of the incident he was wearing an orange high visibility work-shirt.

Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

Teens arrested after pursuit – Lake Macquarie

Police have arrested three teenage boys after the pursuit of a stolen vehicle at Lake Macquarie overnight.

During the evening of Sunday 26 July 2015 a green Holden Commodore sedan was stolen from Newcastle Road at Wallsend.

The vehicle was sighted several times throughout the evening travelling at excessive speed in the Newcastle area.

The vehicle and its occupants were also reported to be involved in two robberies.

Shortly before 2am today the vehicle was again sighted by a patrolling police vehicle and a pursuit commenced from Mary Street at Cardiff.

The pursuit continued to Barnsley and through Teralba to Speers Point where road spikes were deployed.

The Holden then struck a parked and unattended vehicle in Berkeley Street. No one was injured.

The three male occupants of the Holden, two aged 15 and a 16-year-old, were arrested without incident.

They have been charged with robbery in company, aggravated robbery (with an offensive weapon) and being carried in conveyance.

They were refused bail and will appear at a Children’s Court today.

Man dies following crash near Lake Macquarie

A man has died after the car he was driving crashed into a bridge near Lake Macquarie overnight.

Shortly before 7pm (Sunday 26 July 2015), emergency services were called to Racecourse Road in Teralba after a car crashed into a railway bridge.

The sole occupant of the vehicle – a man aged 46 – was trapped inside the vehice, however emergency services personnel were able to remove him from the wreck.

Despite the efforts of emergency services workers to revive the man, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A report will now be prepared for the Coroner.

Woman charged with drug supply near Lake Macquarie

A 35-year-old woman will appear in court today after she was charged with supplying the drug Ice near Lake Macquarie.

Last night (Saturday 25 July 2015), Lake Macquarie Special Operations Group police stopped a car on Windsor Street at Edgeworth.

The man and woman inside the vehicle were searched and the woman was allegedly in possession of two plastic bags, each containing 30 grams of the drug Ice.

She was arrested and taken to Toronto Police Station where she was charged with deemed supply greater than trafficable amount of prohibited drug (Ice) and possess prohibited drug.

The 35-year-old woman was refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court today (Sunday 26 July 2015).

Man arrested after police find stun-gun disguised as smart-phone – Wyee

A Central Coast man will appear in court today after being found in possession of a stun-gun disguised as a smart-phone.

Around 3pm yesterday (Saturday 25 July 2015), police were patrolling the western car-park of Wyee Railway Station when they noticed two men acting suspiciously within a white Saab.

Officers spoke to the men, before conducting a search of the car. Inside the boot of the vehicle, police located what initially appeared to be a smart-phone. Upon further inspection, officers determined that the phone was in fact a stun-gun, and the weapon was seized.

One of the men within the car, a 50-year-old from Tacoma, was arrested and taken to Toronto Police Station where he was charged with possess prohibited weapon. He has been refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court today (Sunday 26 July 2015).

The other man in the car was not arrested.

Police search for escapee – Muswellbrook

Police are searching for a man who escaped from a correctional centre in Muswellbrook yesterday afternoon.

Myles Fergus Wilson, 58, was last seen at St Heliers Correctional Centre in Muswellbrook, about 2pm yesterday (Friday 24 July 2015).

Following a search of the grounds and surrounding area, Mr Wilson could not be found. He was reported as an escapee to Hunter Valley Local Area Command and an investigation commenced.

Myles Wilson is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 165 to 170cm tall, with a slim build, and light coloured hair.

He was last seen wearing green tracksuit pants and a high-visibility green shirt.

Police are urging anyone with information about the whereabouts of Mr Wilson to come forward.

Police are warning the public not to approach Myles Wilson if they see him, but to instead contact Triple Zero immediately.

Police investigate armed robbery near Newcastle

Police are investigating following an armed robbery at a bakery near Newcastle yesterday.

About 4.40pm (Friday 24 July 2015), a 60-year-old woman was working in a bakery on Ridge Street, Merewether (about 4km south west of Newcastle) when a man armed with a knife entered the store.

Police have been told the armed man threatened the woman, before running from the scene in a westerly direction, taking cash.

A 30-year-old male witness attempted to stop the man; however lost sight of him a short time later.

The woman was uninjured during the incident.

Officers attached to Newcastle Local Area Command were notified and commenced investigating the incident.

As inquiries continue, police would like to speak to a man who may be able to assist them.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his 30s, about 188cm tall, of slim build, and was wearing a white striped hooded jumper.

Woman charged with baby’s murder – Wallsend

A 26-year-old woman has been charged with murder following the death of a baby near Newcastle.

About 9am today (Friday 24 July 2015), emergency services were called to a house in Curry Street, Wallsend, after a six-week-old girl was found deceased at the property.

A 26-year-old woman was arrested at the property and taken to Waratah Police Station.

She has since been charged with murder and refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court tomorrow (Saturday 25 July 2015).
