Police appeal for man wanted on warrants – Newcastle LAC

Police are appealing for information to locate a man wanted on an outstanding arrest warrants.

George Jones, aged 30, is wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for a revocation of parole.

Police continue to make inquiries and are appealing for assistance from the community to locate him.

George Jones is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 180cm tall, with a solid build.

He is known to frequent the Cooks Hill, Newcastle, Edgeworth, Raymond Terrace and Port Stephens areas.

Anyone who sees George Jones or knows his whereabouts is urged not to approach him, but instead contact police immediately on Triple Zero (000).

Police appeal for information following fire – Lambton

Police are appealing for public assistance after a suspicious fire in Sydney’s north last month.

About 10.40am on Saturday 21 May 2016, emergency services were called to Wyong Road, Lambton, following reports of a fire at a business.

On arrival officers from Newcastle City Local Area Command located the premises well alight.

Officers from Fire & Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze, which caused significant damage to the building.

While the cause of the fire is not known, initial investigations suggest it may be suspicious.

Police would like to speak to three males who may be able to assist with enquiries.

The trio is described as being of Caucasian appearance and aged between 10 and 12 years old.

One of the males has ginger coloured hair and was wearing a green t-shirt.

The second male was seen wearing a white t-shirt, black pants and a baseball cap.

The third male has brown hair and was seen wearing a white shirt and shorts.

Detectives from Newcastle City Local Area Command are investigating the incident and appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward, specifically to anyone who may have witnessed the fire.

Man charged following police pursuit – Newcastle

Police have charged a man after an alleged pursuit in Newcastle yesterday.

Just after 2pm (Thursday 2 June 2016), officers attached to Newcastle City Local Area Command attempted to stop a Honda Jazz travelling along Sandgate Road, Shortland.

Police will allege the driver failed to stop, and a short pursuit ensued.

As the vehicle continued along Minmi Road, Wallsend, the driver proceeded through a red light and collided with another vehicle.

The driver, a 27-year-old man, and the passenger, an 18-year-old woman, fled the scene and a short foot pursuit ensued.
Police arrested the pair, and it will be alleged the man spat on one of the officers.

Upon searching the vehicle, police located a firearm and drugs, believed to be methyl-amphetamine.

The man was taken to Newcastle Police Station, where he was charged with police pursuit (not stop/drive dangerously), drive whilst disqualified, resist and assault police, possess shortened firearm, not keep firearm safely, possess unregistered firearm.

He was refused bail, to appear at Newcastle Local Court today (Friday 3 June 2016).

The 18-year-old woman assisted police with inquiries and was released a short time later.

Truck fire – Freemans Waterhole

Diversions are in place after a truck rollover and fire on the M1.

Just before 2am, emergency services were called to the M1 southbound at Freemans Waterhole after a semi-trailer carrying treated pine slabs hit failed to negotiate a left hand bend and rolled, before catching alight.

The 59-year-old male driver was able to escape with minor injuries to his chest and was conveyed to John Hunter Hospital.

Road closures were implemented and the southbound lanes are closed at the Palmers Road Interchange. The diversions are expected to be in place for sometime while the scene is cleared.

Man charged with animal cruelty after cat seriously injured – Cessnock

A man has been charged with animal cruelty after a cat was seriously injured in the state’s Hunter region earlier this month.

On Friday 6 May 2016, a boy saw a man allegedly swinging a cat by her tail and hitting her against a trailer.

The boy, who is the man’s neighbour, called out to him before alerting his mother. They believed the cat was deceased.

The cat had given birth to a litter of kittens at the boy’s home the previous day.

The following day the cat returned to her litter and was taken to an animal rescue group with serious injuries, including a broken spine and legs.

The rescue group raised funds for the cat and organised veterinary treatment.

The matter was reported to police and officers from Central Hunter Local Area Command commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, police attended a house on Cessnock Road and arrested a man.

The 58-year-old was taken to Maitland Police Station where he was charged with torture, beat and seriously injure an animal.

He will appear at Kurri Kurri Local Court on 30 June 2016.

The cat and her kittens remain in the care of the animal rescue group.

Police appeal after hotel armed robbery near Newcastle

Police are appealing for information after an armed robbery at a licensed premises near Newcastle last night.

About 10pm (Sunday 29 May 2016), a male armed with a firearm entered a licensed premises on Lake Road at Argenton.

Police have been told the armed male threatened staff, before taking cash and leaving in the direction of Lake Road.

There were no shots fired during the robbery and there were no reports of injury.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command attended and a crime scene was established.

Detectives would like to speak to a male who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 180cm tall and of solid build.

Police search for missing camper near Murrurundi

Police will co-ordinate a search for a man who went missing while on a camping trip in the Hunter Valley region yesterday.

The 43-year-old man was last seen about 4am (Saturday 28 May 2016), when he walked away from the Timor Caves Camping Ground near Murrurundi.

His group became concerned after he failed to return and they conducted a search of the area without success.

Police were contacted about 7pm.

A co-ordinated land search will commence at 7am today (Sunday 29 May 2016), utilising officers from Hunter Valley Local Area Command, the Dog Unit, PolAir, Northern Region Operations Support Group, Murrurundi State Emergency Service and Murrurundi Volunteer Rescue Association.

The missing man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, 180cm tall and about 70kg. He has blonde hair and blue eyes and was last seen wearing jeans and a jumper.

Man charged with supplying drugs to students – Toronto

Police have charged a man with supplying drugs to students at a high school in the state’s Lake Macquarie region earlier this week.

A man attended the school at Toronto on Monday (23 May 2016), and allegedly supplied students with muffins containing cannabis.

Two students fell ill and were taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.

Police were alerted and officers from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, police attended a home on Milford Street at Toronto just after 12.30pm today (Saturday 28 May 2016), where they arrested a 19-year-old man.

The man was taken to Belmont Police Station where he was charged with supply prohibited drugs.

He was given conditional bail to appear at Toronto Local Court on 19 July 2016.

Teens charged after alleged attempted robbery – Charlestown

Two teenagers have been charged after an alleged attempted robbery near Newcastle last weekend.

About 4.50pm on Sunday 22 May 2016, an 18-year-old man was walking along Charlestown Road, Charlestown when he was approached by two males – aged 15 and 17.

Police will allege the 15-year-old boy, demanded the man’s phone and wallet.

When the man tried to run away, it’s alleged the 15-year-old and 17-year-old assaulted him, before he was able to escape.

The man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics for minor grazing to his arm.

Police from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command were notified and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, on Monday 23 May 2016, a 15-year-old boy was arrested and charged with demand property with menaces with intent to steal in company.

He was refused bail to appear before a children’s court on Monday 6 June 2016.

Today (Friday 27 May 2016), a 17-year-old boy was arrested and charged with demand property with menaces with intent to steal in company.

He was refused bail to appear before a children’s court on Monday 30 May 2016.

Deliberately lit bushfire – Cessnock

Police are appealing for public assistance after a suspicious bush fire in the Hunter Valley this morning.

About 2.30am (Thursday 26 May 2016), a suspicious fire was lit in bush near the corner of Long Street and Old Maitland Road, Cessnock.

This spot has houses in close proximity. The fire burned an area of 20 x 10 metres before being extinguished by Fire & Rescue NSW officers.

Nobody was injured.

Police from Central Hunter LAC are investigating. There was a similar incident at the location on Saturday (21 May 2016).
