Man charged over alleged stabbing of brother – Lambton

A man has been charged over an alleged stabbing which has left his brother in a critical condition in hospital.
About 11.30am today (Wednesday 13 April 2016), an altercation took place between two brothers, aged 30 and 24, at their home on Rudd Street, Lambton.

During the altercation, the younger man armed himself with a steak knife and allegedly stabbed his brother up to four times in the chest.

Police and Ambulance Paramedics attended and the 30-year-old man was transported to John Hunter Hospital for surgery. He is understood to be in a critical condition.

The 24-year-old was arrested and taken to Waratah Police Station where he was charged with malicious wounding.

He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 14 April 2016).

Two men charged over armed robbery – Hamilton

Two men have been charged after a woman was robbed with a firearm in Newcastle today.

About 12.30pm (Wednesday 13 April 2016), a 19-year-old woman was at a bus stop on Tudor Street, Hamilton, when she was approached by two males and threatened with a handgun.

The woman handed over her purse and phone to the offenders, who fled the scene towards Broadmeadow.

A short time later, police from Newcastle City LAC detained two males nearby. The victim’s phone was allegedly found in possession of one of the men.

The two men, aged 30 and 26, were arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station. While being conveyed the 30-year-old man allegedly damaged the door of the police vehicle by kicking it.

Both men were charged with robbery in company. The older man was also charged with malicious damage.

Both were refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 14 April 2016).

The firearm allegedly used has not been located yet however inquiries will continue.

Police investigate collision – Kooragang (near Newcastle)

Police are investigating a two-vehicle collision outside Newcastle today.

Shortly before 1pm (Wednesday 13 April 2016), emergency services were called to a head-on collision between a car and a truck on Tourle Street Bridge, Kooragang.

A 25-year-old female driver was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.

The male driver of the truck was taken to John Hunter Hospital for mandatory testing.

Traffic and Highway Patrol with the assistance of Crime Scene investigators are currently attending and have commenced an investigation into the incident.

No further information is available at this stage.

Man charged after alleged drug and firearm possession – Chisholm (near Maitland)

Police have charged a man after he was allegedly found with drugs and a firearm near Maitland overnight.

Shortly after 10pm yesterday, (Tuesday 12 April 2016), highway patrol officers detected a red Toyota Yaris speeding along Raymond Terrace Road, Chisholm.

A search of the vehicle was conducted and Officers attached to Central Hunter Highway Patrol allegedly located 60 grams of methylamphetamine, custom made .22 calibre pistol, four rounds of ammunition and $3000 in cash.

A 23-year-old man was arrested and taken to Maitland Police station where he was charged with breach of bail, drive whilst disqualified, possess loaded firearm in a public place, possess unregistered firearm, not keep firearm safely secured, supply an indictable quantity of prohibited drug, two counts of possess prohibited drug, possess knife in public place, possess prescribed restricted substance, possess prohibited weapon and deal in proceeds of crime.

He was refused bail to appear at Maitland Local Court today (Wednesday 13 April 2016).

Police release CCTV images of man following armed robbery – Newcastle

Police have released CCTV images of a man who may be able to assist with inquiries following an armed robbery in Newcastle at the weekend.

About 12.30pm on Sunday 3 April 2016, a man entered a convenience store on Wharf Road, Newcastle.

The man threatened a 23-year-old male worker and demanded money.

A sum of cash was handed to the man and he left the store, running north towards Hunter Street.

No one was injured.

Police from Newcastle City Local Area Command were called and commenced an investigation.

As part of their inquiries, detectives have released CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to.

The depicted man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, in his early to mid 50s, about 175-180cm tall with a muscular build. He was wearing a black t-shirt, cream shorts and a panama hat.

Man charged over alleged drug offences – Lake Macquarie

A man has been charged over alleged drug offences following the execution of a search warrant in Lake Macquarie today.

In November 2015, police from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command launched an investigation into the alleged supply of cannabis in the Glendale area.

Following further inquiries, officers from the Special Operations Group executed a search warrant at a home on Neville Street, Glendale, today (Wednesday 6 April 2016).

During a subsequent search of the property officers located and seized cannabis and a number of cannabis plants.

A 27-year-old man was arrested at the home and taken to Toronto Police Station, where he was charged with drug supply (over indictable quantity), and cultivate prohibited plant.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before Toronto Local Court on Wednesday 20 April 2016.

Police appeal for information to locate wanted female – Newcastle

 

Police are appealing for information on the whereabouts of a woman wanted on an outstanding warrant.

Racquel Leanne Akers, aged 34, is currently wanted by virtue of an outstanding drug court warrant.

She is described as being of Caucasian appearance, fair complexion, about 160 to 165cm tall, of thin build and her hair may be dyed.

Ms Akers is believed to frequent the Newcastle, Maitland and Cessnock areas.

Anyone who sees Ms Akers or knows her current whereabouts is urged not to approach her, but to contact Newcastle Police on (02) 4929 0999, Waratah Police on (02) 4926 6599 or Crime Stoppers.

Police release CCTV images after ATM damaged – Charlestown

Police are appealing for information after an ATM was damaged at Charlestown last month.

Just after 9pm on Wednesday 16 March 2016, an ATM sustained damage.

As investigations into the matter continue, officers from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command have released CCTV images of three men and a woman who they believe can assist with inquiries.

The woman is described as being of Caucasian appearance, in her 20s, about 170-180cm tall with a medium/heavy build.

The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, in his to mid to late 20s, about 175-185cm tall with a medium build.
