Man to face court after allegedly swearing at children in park – Mayfield

A man will face court today following an alleged incident at a Newcastle park yesterday.

Between 6.30pm and 8pm (Tuesday 5 April 2016), police will allege a 36-year-old man started swearing at a number of small children playing in a park at Mayfield.

A number of parents confronted the man who allegedly swore at them as well.

Police from Newcastle City Local Area Command attended and spoke to the man who allegedly exhibited signs of intoxication.

The man was arrested and taken to Waratah Police Station where he was charged with use offensive language in a public place and breach of bail.

He was refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court today (Wednesday 6 April 2016).

Police appeal for information following alleged armed robbery near Newcastle

Police are appealing for a witness to come forward after an alleged armed robbery at a service station near Newcastle on the weekend.

About 11.30am on Saturday 2 April 2016, a woman entered a service station on the corner of York Street and Anzac Parade, Teralba, allegedly armed with a knife and demanded money.

The 55-year-old male employee complied and handed over a sum of cash.

The woman fled the scene.

Officers from Lake Macquarie were notified and attended the location, and a short time later, a 42-year-old woman was arrested at a unit on Anzac Parade, Teralba.

Police believe when the woman fled the scene, she was approached by two males.

It will be alleged the woman produced a knife and threatened the men.

Police would like to speak to a man who might be able to assist with ongoing inquiries. The man is described as being aged in his 30-40s, with a black bushy beard, dark hair and was last seen driving a white four wheel drive.

Police appeal following two alleged armed robberies – Newcastle

Police are appealing for information after two armed robberies occurred at Newcastle today.

About 11.30am (Sunday 3 April 2016), a man walked into a business on Belford Street, Broadmeadow, and allegedly threatened a 41-year-old male employee with a knife, demanding money.

The employee complied and ran away. The man left the store shortly afterwards with a sum of cash.

About 12.30pm (Sunday 3 April 2016), a man entered a convenience store on Wharf Road, Newcastle. The man allegedly threatened a 23-year-old male worker and demanded money.

A sum of cash was handed to the man and he left the store, running north towards Hunter Street.

Police from Newcastle City Local Area Command were called to both incidents and commenced investigations.

No one was injured in either of the robberies.

Detectives suspect both incidents are linked and would like to speak to a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, in his early to mid 50s, about 175-180cm tall with a solid build.

In the first incident, the man was seen wearing a white t-shirt and black glasses.

In the second incident, the man was seen wearing sunglasses, a black t-shirt and cream shorts.

Staff threatened with syringe during attempted shoplift – Port Stephens

A man has been charged after allegedly threatening staff with a syringe while attempting to shoplift in Port Stephens yesterday.

Just before 7.30pm (Saturday 2 April 2016), a man attempted to leave a supermarket on Peppertree Road at Medowie with groceries that allegedly had not been paid for.

When staff members confronted the man, it’s alleged he threatened them with a syringe.

He left the store with the items; however, members of the public chased and detained the man while police were alerted.

Officers from Port Stephens Local Area Command attended and arrested the 29-year-old.

He was taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station where he was charged with six counts of common assault, and attempted shoplifting / use weapon to avoid detention.

The Kuruah man was bail refused to appear at Maitland Bail Court today (Sunday 3 April 2016).

Police investigate shooting near Nelson Bay

An investigation is underway following the shooting of a man in the state’s Hunter region overnight.

Emergency services were called to a home on Guyang Street at Corlette just after 10.30pm (Saturday 2 April 2016), where they found a man with gunshot wounds to both thighs.

The 31-year-old was taken to John Hunter Hospital where he is receiving treatment for suspected broken femurs.

Detectives from Port Stephens Local Area Command established a crime scene at the home which was examined by specialist forensic officers.

Investigators are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

The injured man is not assisting police with inquiries.

Woman charged following alleged armed robbery near Newcastle

A woman has been charged following an alleged armed robbery at a service station near Newcastle today.

The 55-year-old male employee complied and handed over a sum of cash.

The woman fled the scene.

Officers from Lake Macquarie were notified and attended the location.

A short time later, a 42-year-old woman was arrested at a unit on Anzac Parade, Teralba.

Police executed a search warrant at the unit and seized a number of items.

The 42-year-old woman was taken to Belmont Police Station where she was charged with robbery whilst armed with an offence weapon.

She was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court tomorrow (Sunday 3 April 2016).

Man arrested following alleged glassing – Warners Bay

A man has been arrested after allegedly glassing another patron at a hotel in Lake Macquarie yesterday evening.

About 10pm (Friday 1 April 2016), officers attached to Lake Macquarie Local Area Command were called to a licensed premises on John Street, Warners Bay, following reports of an assault.

Police arrived to find a 24-year-old Belmont South man had sustained serious lacerations to his neck after allegedly being struck with a glass.

Investigators have been told the injured man had been involved in a verbal dispute with another patron earlier in the evening.

The situation escalated with the other man, aged 19, allegedly striking the older man in the neck with a glass.

The older man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics, before being taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.

He remains in hospital and is now believed to be stable.

The younger man was taken to Belmont Hospital under police guard for treatment to minor finger lacerations.

A crime scene was established at the hotel, which was examined by detectives and specialist forensic officers.

Investigations into the matter are continuing and charges are expected to be laid.

Police appeal for information following alleged stabbing – Windale

Police are appealing for information following an alleged stabbing south of Newcastle last night.

About 7.30pm (Friday 1 April 2016), officers attached to Lake Macquarie Local Area Command were called to a property on Tahlee Avenue, Windale, after reports of an assault.

Officers arrived to find a 25-year-old man and 27-year-old woman had allegedly been assaulted at the home.

Police have been told the pair attended the home earlier that evening to visit a friend.

While inside the property they were approached by two men, not known to them, who allegedly punched the woman in the face and stabbed the man.

The armed men fled the location prior to police arrival.

The woman sustained facial injuries and was treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics but did not require further medical attention.

The injured man was also treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics and has since been taken to John Hunter Hospital. His injuries are not considered life threatening.

A crime scene was established at the home, which was examined by detectives and forensic specialists.

Detectives are continuing their inquiries into the incident and would now like to speak to two men who may be able to assist in the investigation.

The first man is described as being about 20-30 years of age with a skinny build and was last seen wearing camouflage cargo pants and a t-shirt. The second man is described as being about 20-30-years of age and was last seen wearing a black hooded jumper and pants.

Anyone who knows the identity of either man, or has any information that could assist police, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

Police are also keen to hear from anyone who may have seen two men leaving the Tahlee Avenue home between 7-7.30pm.

Police appeal for ‘stealing’ victims to come forward after two charged over alleged fraud offences – Lake Macquarie

Lake Macquarie Police are appealing for victims of recent steal from motor vehicle offences to come forward after a large amount of property was recovered during two arrests this week.

Over the last fortnight Lake Macquarie Local Area Command have investigated a number of steal from motor vehicle offences and subsequent ‘tap and go’ frauds.

Following inquiries, detectives arrested a 35-year-old woman on Tuesday (29 March 2016), and she was taken to Charlestown Police Station, where she was charged with five counts of goods in custody and fifteen counts of dishonestly obtain property by deception.

She was refused bail and is due to appear before Raymond Terrace Local Court on Wednesday 20 April 2016.

Yesterday (Thursday 31 March 2016), officers from Lake Macquarie Special Operations Group attended properties in Wilga Street and Kankool Way at Windale.

Police seized numerous items of property from the homes that are believed to have been stolen from motor vehicles in Adamstown Heights, Cardiff, Warners Bay, Belmont, Mount Hutton, Charlestown and Garden Suburb.

Items seized include wallets and purses, personal papers, credit cards, clothing and electronic devices.

A second woman, aged 33, was arrested at the Kankool Way home and taken to Belmont Police Station, where she was charged with larceny (four counts), dishonestly obtain property by deception (eleven counts) and goods in custody (four counts).

She was refused bail to appear before Toronto Local Court today. (Friday 1 April 2016).

As inquiries continue, Lake Macquarie Police are urging any victims of recent thefts from motor vehicles to ensure that they have reported the incidents to the Police Assistance Line (PAL) on 131 444, to ensure the located property can be returned to its rightful owners.

Police appeal following assault – Maitland

Police are appealing for information after a woman was assaulted in Bolwarra Heights this morning.

Just after 6am today (Thursday 31 March 2016), a 63-year-old woman was assaulted in a home at Margot Close, Bolwarra Heights, near Maitland.

Police have been told a 63-year-old man known to the woman, went to the home and allegedly assaulted her as she got out of a car in the driveway, causing her to fall to the ground.

The man left the address and police were contacted.

Officers from Central Hunter Local Area Command attended and commenced inquiries.

The woman was treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics at the scene. She was taken to Maitland Hospital for treatment. She remains there in a stable condition.

Police would like to speak to the 63-year-old man who may be able to assist them with their investigation.

It is believed the man may be travelling in 2003 Ford Courier table top utility NSW registration YNB213 with a blue and white logo.
