Two people have been charged following an alleged pursuit in Newcastle overnight.

About 11pm (Wednesday 27 January 2016), a blue Toyota Corolla was stopped by Newcastle Highway Patrol officers on Platt Street, Waratah.

During the stop, the vehicle fled the location and a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued into Hamilton, until the Corolla reached the intersection of Samdom Street and Belford Road.

It’s alleged the driver travelled through the intersection against a red light signal and collided with a police vehicle that was travelling west-bound.

The police vehicle was travelling through the intersection on a green light signal and was not involved in the pursuit at the time.

The Corolla continued through the intersection and hit a brick wall on a property on Samdom Street.

No one was injured during either collision.

The 29-year-old male driver and 18-year-old female passenger were both arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station.

During a subsequent search of the Corolla, police allegedly discovered prohibited drugs and property believed to be stolen.

The man was charged with police pursuit (Skye’s Law), drive manner dangerous, drive while disqualified, negligent driving, goods in custody, display misleading plates, use unregistered vehicle, resist arrest and two outstanding warrants.

He was refused bail and is due to appear before Newcastle Local Court today (Thursday 28 January 2016).

The woman was issued a Field Court Attendance Notice for possess prohibited drug.

Two teens have been charged after a party was shut down in Lambton at the weekend.

About 9.20pm on Saturday (23 January 2016), officers attached to Newcastle City Local Area Command were called to a home on Charlton Street after calls to Triple Zero (000) regarding a party at the location.

Police arrived to find approximately 200 people at the premises, a large number of which were allegedly intoxicated and under the age of 18.

Officers spoke with the owners of the property and dispersed the crowd a short time later.

About 50 people from the incident were later seen congregating at a service station on Croudace Street.

Police were moving the group away from the area, when it’s alleged an 18-year-old man threw an object at an officer.

Officers were arresting him when a second 18-year-old man allegedly attempted to intervene.

A 17-year-old girl also attempted to intervene and allegedly assaulted another officer, while a 15-year-old girl was also arrested for hindering police.

Further police arrived at the location and the group was dispersed, while the four teens were arrested.

Both 18-year-old men were charged with assault police and resist arrest and issued Field Court Attendance Notices to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday 2 February 2016.

Inquiries are continuing regarding the two teenage girls, who are expected to be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.

A number of officers sustained minor injuries during the incidents; however, they did not require hospitalisation.

Police are appealing for public assistance following a carjacking at Wyee this morning.

Just before 4.30am (Monday 25 January 2016), a 63-year-old man was exiting his vehicle after parking it at Wyee Train Station car park on Gorokan Road, when he was approached by an unknown male.

Police have been told the unknown male threatened to assault him with a hammer, before telling him to leave the car.

The 63-year-old complied, and the male got in the vehicle and drove away.

He was not injured in the incident.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command were notified and attended the scene.

The stolen car is described as a silver Skoda Superb wagon with NSW registration SM906.

Police investigating the incident would like to speak to a male who may be able to assist them.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 20-30-years-old, with a solid build and dark hair. He was seen wearing a white shirt and tan shorts.

A man has been charged after allegedly firing a shot at a home in Cessnock yesterday morning.

About 3.45am (Sunday 24 January 2016), a man allegedly attended a home on Cumberland Street Cessnock, and became involved in a verbal altercation with a woman and a man known to him.

Following the altercation, it’s alleged the man fired a shot into a home on Cumberland Street.

No one was injured during the incident.

Officer from Central Hunter Local Area Command were notified and conducted a patrol of the area for the man, however he was not located.

A crime scene was established at the home, and an investigation commenced.

About 6pm last night (Sunday 24 January 2016), following investigations, officers executed a search warrant at a home on Desmond Street, Cessnock where they allegedly seized an amount of ammunition.

About 7pm, officers attended a home on Callaghan Street, Kurri Kurri and a police operation commenced. About 10.40pm, officers arrested a 28-year-old at the home.

Following his arrest, officers searched the man and the home and allegedly located an amount of drugs, ammunition, fireworks, cash, and other items. All items were seized and will undergo forensic examinations.

He was taken to Maitland Police Station where he was charged with discharge firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possess prohibited drug (x3), possess ammunition without license, contravene apprehended violence order, handle explosive without license, and possess prohibited weapon without permit.

He has been bail refused and is due to appear at Maitland Local Court today (Monday 25 January 2016).

A man has been charged with a number of offences following a pursuit in a vehicle alleged to have been stolen, and a stand-off which lasted more than six hours, in the Lake Macquarie Local Area Command today.

About 5.40am (Sunday 24 January 2016), police stopped a Ford Explorer at a stationary roadside breath test site on Awaba Road, Toronto.

It will be alleged the male driver spoke to police briefly, before he drove from the scene.

Inquiries led police to believe the driver was a 34-year-old man who previously had his Learner’s Licence suspended for five years.

Just after 8.10am, police attempted to stop the man driving a Hyundai i20, alleged to have been stolen, after he was seen using a hand-held mobile phone while travelling along Hickory Road, Gateshead.

The man allegedly failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated through Gateshead and Windale, before it was terminated due to safety concerns.

Further inquiries led police to locate the Hyundai in a paddock at the end of Lake Street, Windale.

The man was seen running from the area, and a foot pursuit took place to a home on Swan Street, where the man allegedly entered the premises, damaged the ceiling, and climbed onto the roof.

Officers attached to Lake Macquarie Local Area Command, Traffic and Highway Patrol, Dog Unit, Police Rescue and Police Negotiators attended.

About 3pm, the man climbed down from the roof and was arrested at the scene.

He was taken to Belmont Police Station, where he was charged with:

– Skye’s Law,

– Two counts of disqualified driver,

– Possess prohibited drug,

– Assault,

– Three counts of malicious damage,

– Enter dwelling with intent to commit indictable offence,

– State false name,

– Illegal use of conveyance, and unrelated offences.

The man has been refused bail, to appear at Newcastle Local Court tomorrow (Monday 25 January 2016). Further charges are expected to be laid.

Police are appealing for public assistance after a man’s body was located in waters at Wangi Wangi, in Lake Macquarie this morning.

About 11.10am (Saturday 23 January 2016), emergency services were called the shore near Kent Street, following reports of a man in the water.

The man’s body was retrieved from the water and officers attached to Lake Macquarie Local Area Command established a crime scene, which will be forensically examined.

The cause of the man’s death is unknown, and while he is yet to be formally identified, he is believed to be 66-year-old local.

Anyone who may assist police with their investigation is urged to contact Lake Macquarie Police via Crime Stoppers.

A man has been charged following an alleged attempted robbery in Adamstown yesterday afternoon.

About 5.30pm (Thursday 21st January, 2016) a man entered a service station on Glebe Road and allegedly threatened a woman with a knife.

The 28-year-old woman ran from the scene and alerted police, as the man fled.

Officers from Newcastle City Local Area Command arrived a short time later and arrested a 31-year-old man on Glebe Road.

During the arrest, the man allegedly assaulted an officer and fled before he was re-arrested.

Officers searched the man and allegedly located a small tomahawk and sheath on him as well as an amount of drugs. A knife was located a short distance away.

All items were seized and will undergo forensic examination.

The man was taken to Newcastle City Police Station where he was charged with armed with intent to commit indictable offence, assault police, resist arrest, wield a knife in a public place, possess amphetamine and escape police custody.

He was refused bail and is due to appear at Newcastle Local Court today (Friday 22nd January 2016).
