Man charged with sexual assault of woman near Newcastle

Police investigating the sexual assault of a woman at a hotel near Newcastle have arrested and charged a man.

The woman, aged 42, was sexually assaulted by a man at a hotel in Tighes Hill late yesterday (Tuesday 16 June 2015).

Officers attended the location around 11.30pm and arrested a 65-year-old man.

He was taken to Newcastle Police Station and charged with sexual intercourse without consent.

Refused bail, he is scheduled to appear before Newcastle Local Court today (Wednesday 17 June 2015).

Man arrested for firearms offences, impersonating police – Firearms Squad

Firearms Squad detectives have arrested a man over the alleged theft of guns while impersonating a police officer in the State’s Hunter region last year.

About 8.30am on Wednesday 29 October 2014, a property owner at Clarence Town was approached by two men at his home who purported to be plain clothes police officers.

Detectives were told two revolvers were stolen from the premises, with those firearms recovered during a search warrant at Mayfield East the following day.

Two men, aged 28 and 29, remain before the court on related charges.

Yesterday morning (Tuesday 16 June 2015), Firearms Squad detectives arrested a 32-year-old man at Newcastle Police Station.

He was charged with aggravated enter dwelling with intent, acquire firearm without permit, impersonate police officer and exercise powers/functions, and supply prohibited firearm to unauthorised person.

He remains in custody to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday 29 July 2015.

Police release CCTV images after attempted ram raid – Freemans Waterhole, Lake Macquarie

Police have released CCTV images following an attempted ram raid at a cafe at Freemans Waterhole, in Lake Macquarie, earlier this year.

About 3.30am on Friday 20 March 2015, two men drove a green Hyundai Excel to a cafe on Freemans Drive.

Inquiries revealed the vehicle had been stolen during a previous incident in Cooranbong.

The two men gained entry to the cafe and attempted to remove an ATM from inside the business.

One of the men then rammed the vehicle through the glass doorway of the business multiple times; before both men fled the scene empty-handed.

Officers attached to Lake Macquarie Local Area Command were alerted and established a crime scene at the location.

Investigations into the matter are continuing and police have now released CCTV images of two men who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

The first man depicted is described as having a dark complexion, of an average build and is shown wearing a blue hooded shirt with the letter ‘R’ on the back in red and black, dark-coloured shorts, black joggers, white gloves and has his face covered with a piece of material.

The second man depicted is described as being of skinny build and is shown wearing track suit pants, a blue hooded jumper, a baseball cap with a red peak and blue joggers.

Anyone who knows the identity of either man, or has any information that may assist police, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

Two charged after drugs, knives, gun, and ammunition found in car, near Kurri Kurri

Two men have been charged after police found drugs, knives, a rifle, and ammunition after stopping a car in Pelaw Main, near Kurri Kurri Saturday night.

About 11.15pm (Saturday 13 June 2015), police from Central Hunter Local Area Command were patrolling the Hunter Economic Zone when they stopped a white Nissan Patrol.

Following investigations, police searched the vehicle and allegedly located an amount of drugs believed to be amphetamines, two knives, a rifle, and ammunition.

The items were seized and will undergo forensic examinations.

The driver and passenger, both 29, were arrested and taken to Cessnock Police Station.

The passenger was charged with possess prohibited drug and is due to appear at Kurri Kurri Local Court on Thursday 30 July 2015.

The driver was charged with possess loaded firearm in public place, fire firearm in or near public place, possess ammunition, possess prohibited drug, custody of knife in public place, goods in custody, possess unregistered firearm, possess unauthorised firearm, not keep firearm safely, and receive/dispose of stolen property.

The driver was refused bail and appeared at Maitland Local Court yesterday (Sunday 14 June 2015) where he was granted conditional bail to appear at Kurri Kurri Local Court on Thursday 9 July 2015.

Police investigate fatal crash – Shortland (near Newcastle)

Police from Newcastle Local Area Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal crash that occurred in Shortland early today.

About 3.30am (Monday 15 June 2015), emergency services were called to Sandgate Road, near Marion Street following reports of a single car crash.

On arrival officers located a vehicle that had crashed through a school fence and into a tree.

The 41-year-old driver from Wallsend was not able to be revived.

A crime scene has now been established while police conduct a full investigation for the information of the coroner.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area where possible. Local diversions are in place while the investigation continues.

Police investigate after pursuit – Newcastle

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a pursuit in Newcastle yesterday.

About 1am (Saturday 13 June 2015), officers from Newcastle Local Area Command were patrolling Wharf Road, Newcastle.

The police indicated to the driver of a white Hyundai i20 to pull over, when the car allegedly accelerated away and a pursuit was initiated.

After a short distance the pursuit was stopped due to safety concerns.

The Hyundai was seen later at Newcastle Road, Wallsend and a pursuit was re-initiated. The car has travelled through Maryland, Fletcher, Minmi and Lenaghans Hill and onto the M1 Freeway, before exiting on the southern exit of Palmers Road, Toronto.

The pursuit was again terminated due to safety concerns.

The car was located abandoned a short time later near Freemans Drive, Freemans Waterhole.

A police dog attended the location and found three people in bushland nearby.

They were arrested and taken to Toronto Police Station before being released pending further inquiries.

Police investigate after woman suffers serious burns at backyard gathering – Hunter Region

Central Hunter Detectives are investigating after a woman suffered serious burns in Morpeth overnight.

About 12.10am (Sunday 14 June 2015), there was a small gathering in the backyard of a home on London Avenue.

Police are investigating reports that while the 12 people were sitting around a small fire a 26-year-old man has allegedly poured an accelerant on the fire in an attempt to re-establish it.

The fire has come into contact with a 24-year-old woman who suffered serious burns to her face, neck, chest and upper legs. Numerous guests attempted to assist her douse the flames and she was put into a cold shower and emergency services were called.

Ambulance Paramedics tended to the woman and stabilised her before taking her to the John Hunter Hospital. It’s believed she has suffered burns to 50 percent of her body.

It is expected she will be flown by helicopter from the John Hunter Hospital to the specialist burns unit based at Royal North Shore Hospital.

Three other guests, two men and a woman, suffered minor burns and received some form of medical assistance.

A crime scene was established and was processed by forensic specialists. Police are speaking to witnesses and neighbours regarding the incident.

Inquiries are continuing.

Man charged after his vehicle strikes partner – Lake Macquarie

Police have charged a man who whilst in his vehicle, struck and knocked over his partner during an incident at Argenton yesterday.

About 6.30pm on Saturday 13 June 2015, a 26-year-old man took his 24-year-old partner to a meeting with her 27-year-old ex partner to collect some belongings.

The man dropped the woman in Lake Road to allow her to walk the short distance to Robert Street to meet the older man. After gaining the items the woman called her partner to collect her, and the younger man drove to Robert Street.

Police have been told the man saw his partner having an argument with the older man who was seated in his motor vehicle.

As the man alighted from his car, the younger man feared that his partner was going to be assaulted and accelerated his Nissan 4WD towards the older man.

The older man was able to avoid the vehicle however the Nissan mounted the kerb of Robert Street and struck the woman, who was knocked over, with the 4WD passing over her. The Nissan continued through a wire boundary fence, through the front yard of a home and then exited through another wire fence onto Robert Street.

The driver then once again allegedly drove at the older man who was able to avoid the Nissan. The driver stopped his vehicle and checked briefly on the woman’s condition and fled.

Emergency services were contacted and the woman was treated by Ambulance Paramedics and conveyed to John Hunter Hospital where she remains under observation for minor injuries.

The 26-year-old man was arrested at Toronto Police Station about 7.30pm yesterday and charged with drive motor vehicle in manner menacing and drive manner dangerous.

He was granted conditional bail to attend Toronto Local Court on Wednesday 8 July 2015.

Police appeal for information about missing teenager – Lake Munmorah

Police from Tuggerah Lakes Local Area Command are appealing to the public for information to help locate a missing 14-year-old girl.

Heather Snape was last seen at 2.30pm on Saturday 18 April 2015, leaving her residential address on Lakeway Drive, Lake Munmorah.

Police and relatives hold concerns for Heather’s welfare, as she has not made contact with relatives.

Heather has previously left home and is known to frequent trains and railway stations in Newcastle area. She may also be in the Windsor area of northwest Sydney.

Heather is described as being of Caucasian appearance with a fair complexion, about 160cm to 165cm tall, 40-50kgs with a thin build and brown hair when last seen.

Police are appealing for community assistance to find Heather. Anyone with information about her whereabouts is urged to contact Wyong Police Station on (02) 4356 6099 or Crime Stoppers.
