AUSTRALIAN MADE: 30TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION

DIGITALLY RESTORED FEATURE FILM ON AUSTRALIAN MUSIC’S COMING-OF-AGE INXS, JIMMY BARNES, DIVINYLS, MODELS THE SAINTS, THE TRIFFIDS, I’M TALKING

30 years ago, two significant moments in Australian music industry history arrived out of a passion for Australian contemporary music.

The first was the inaugural ARIA Awards in 1986. The second was the staging of a major series of outdoor festivals in the summer of 1986/87 under the banner AUSTRALIAN MADE. They were both ambitious ideas borne out of a frustration for the lack of respect for, and recognition of, our country’s musicians.

To celebrate this milestone, AUSTRALIAN MADE: 30TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION will screen exclusively at 40 Event Cinemas and Village Cinemas on Friday 25 November for one night only. Click here to view the trailer.

Both events back in 1987 not only broke the rules, they forever changed the perception about how we, as a country, viewed our place on the world stage when it came to music.

As INXS lead singer Michael Hutchence said during the AUSTRALIAN MADE Tour: “It’s grown-up time. We’ve come of age. This has proved that we’re part of the world music scene.”

AUSTRALIAN MADE saw nearly 140,000 fans in six cities witness performances from a potent and imaginative line-up including INXS, Jimmy Barnes, Divinyls, Models, The Saints, The Triffids and I’m Talking.

AUSTRALIAN MADE: THE FEATURE FILM

Acclaimed director Richard Lowenstein and a 50-strong film crew captured the on-stage performances and backstage camaraderie between artists for production of a feature film of the AUSTRALIAN MADE Tour.

AUSTRALIAN MADE was a critical and box-office success when it was first-released nationally in July 1987:

“An expert mixture of on-stage appearances, inspired
selection of music and behind-the-scenes interviews”
Rob Lowing, The Sun-Herald (1987)

“Those forceful images of Jimmy Barnes belting it out are
as memorable as anything I’ve seen in a rock film”
Paul Le Peitit, Sunday Telegraph (1987)

Academy Award® winner Jill Billcock was responsible for the rapid-fire editing, with music production by the legendary Mark Opitz, who’d previously collaborated with AUSTRALIAN MADE producer John McLean on Cold Chisel’s Last Stand – the country’s first theatrically-released rock film.

AUSTRALIAN MADE: 30TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION

30 years on AUSTRALIAN MADE has been brilliantly restored for a 21st century audience. Sony Music Australia, in partnership with the film’s producers and assistance from the National Film & Sound Archive, have undertaken a major digital restoration of AUSTRALIAN MADE, including a 2K widescreen scan of the film negative and remastering of the soundtrack.

The restored film features 15 live concert tracks, including explosive performances from INXS and Jimmy Barnes – both of whose profiles are as strong now as 30 years ago. The 30th Anniversary Edition includes ‘never-before-seen’ outtakes and intimate behind-the-scenes ‘home movie’ footage that’s recently been unearthed from the archives.

AUSTRALIAN MADE is a rare ‘time-capsule’ of our music history – a soundtrack to the lives of many who were there, and a unique way for a new generation of music fans to discover the best of Australian music in the 80s.

AUSTRALIAN MADE: 30TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION will screen exclusively at 40 Event Cinemas and Village Cinemas on Friday, 25 November for one night only.

LEGENDARY SINGER-SONGWRITER BRIAN CADD RELEASES FIRST SOLO ALBUM IN 11 YEARS SUPPORTED BY THE BOOTLEG FAMILY BAND

ARIA Hall of Fame singer-songwriter Brian Cadd makes a triumphant return to the airwaves with his first solo album in over a decade – Bulletproof. This new release harks back to the 1970s pure rock n roll sounds of Brian Cadd and The Bootleg Family Band, and marks 50 proud years of Brian celebrating his award-winning work in the international music business.

Bulletproof is a powerful, rollicking, rock n roll album that will transport listeners back to the live show sounds of Brian Cadd with his famous Bootleg Family Band; from the opening track – and title song – Bulletproof, a reference to Brian Cadd’s 70 years young, through to the foot-stomping final song On The Edge. Whether you are a fan of Brian’s early work with the Groop and Axiom, his acclaimed hits Ginger Man, Let Go, and Little Ray of Sunshine, or his prolific work as a songwriter for the likes of Joe Cocker, The Pointer Sisters and John Farnham to name a few, there is something on this album for everyone.

The album celebrates a collection of previously unreleased songs Brian had stored away, some that he had penned for and were previously recorded by other performers, and songs which were crafted right there in the studio… all sharing one common Bootleg Family Band theme – rock! While Brian says there was no intentional time frame for the release of Bulletproof, but now seemed fitting.

“It turns out that 2016 is my 50th year in the business, and I also turn 70 years young – a good time to release an album called Bulletproof,” he says. “Our [Brian Cadd and The Bootleg Family Band] live shows were always completely over-the-top and full-on so we decided to make that kind of album.”

Bulletproof was produced by Brian, together with gifted engineer Doug Brady, known for his work with John Farnham, Dragon and Jimmy Barnes, at his new Furstock Studios in Melbourne. Having been a teenager during The Bootleg Family Band era, Doug’s age difference provided a younger perspective to the project, and his subsequent success and experience combined to produce a sound which was true to the era, and yet unique and cutting edge. Bulletproof also features an abundance of guest performers like eclectic musician Wilbur Wilde, talented multi-instrumentalist Mike Rudd, legend Dai Pritchard from Rose Tattoo, Mick Skelton of Thirsty Merc fame, and Brian Cadd’s close friend Rick Fenn from 10cc on guitar and slide, just to name a handful of those who joined them in the studio.

Stepping away from his famous ‘pop’ sound, the versatile full band created on this album is exactly the live music feel Brian wanted. Taking songs he had written for other great musicians like Joe Cocker, The Pointer Sisters and Bonnie Tyler, Brian Cadd and The Bootleg Family Band also reinvents these songs with a new and different rock n roll sound.

“Most songwriters have a couple of songs that they’ve written for other artists that they’ve always felt they would have loved to have a go at themselves,” says Brian. “As a solo artist I have always been expected to do ballads and story songs. Deep down where I live, it’s all rock n roll.”

The visually stunning album cover, a painting by Archibald Prize finalist artist Philip Howe, captures the true fiery, passionate intensity with which Brian performs. Having met the talented artist Philip through musician Wilbur Wilde, the two bonded over a bottle or so of red wine. Philip then saw a Brian Cadd performance and was inspired to capture the strength and raw energy of him onstage. When the discussion of cover art came up for this album the painting was the obvious choice to depict the energy and spirit of this recording – it is everything that Bulletproof stands for.

The Bootleg Family Band has always been Brian’s imagined proverbial ‘band in the head’. He was lucky enough to get that sound in the 70s, and now excitingly, gets to have a second crack at it with this new album. As Brian says, Bulletproof is the perfect opportunity and reason to “get the band back together”.

Brian Cadd & The Bootleg Family Band’s Bulletproof album is released through MGM on Friday 11th November 2016. For more information, please visit www.briancadd.com

Joining forces for a special Tamworth Country Music Festival bash, Shannon Noll will be hitting the stage with The Wolfe Brothers in their Boys will be Boys Australia Day Eve Party. This double header promises to be the party event of the festival and is the perfect lead-in to the Australia Day public holiday!

His rendition of the classic What About Me smashed onto the charts and since his appearance on the television show he has experienced certified platinum sales, #1 hits, five Top 10 albums, and is reputed as the only Australian male artist in national chart history to have achieved 10 consecutive Top 10 singles. He also has 17 platinum and three gold accreditations – an enviable achievement. Their third long player This Crazy Life was released this year to much acclaim and the Tassie boys have recently returned from a four-month tour of the United States. They are easily one of the hardest working bands on the touring circuit today, and if they are not on the road with their own headline shows, they are performing with country legend Lee Kernaghan.

The band’s debut, It’s On was released in 2013 and spawned three Top 10 singles, including their first #1 for The Girl, The Bottle, The Memory. Their equally impressive sophomore album Nothin’ But Trouble – released in 2014 – entered the ARIA Country Charts at #2. With their new release This Crazy Life under their belts, The Wolfe Brothers were also awarded the Group of the Year accolade in the 2016 CMC Awards. Any live show in the company of these guys is a rockin’ one indeed.

For Tom Wolfe, the concert is the epitome of a great musical celebration. “It is an Australia Day Eve party, it doesn’t get much more Australian than Tamworth, Nollsie, and The Wolfe Brothers,” he says. “It will be a big party – it is guaranteed to be a good time.”

The band only forged a friendship with Shannon recently, but it was an effortless one. “We first became friends about 12-months ago,” says Tom. “He came to our farm in Tasmania, we wrote some songs and hung out for a few days. We had a great time, got along really well and realised we have a lot in common. We have wanted to do a show together for a long time so we are both really stoked.”
