Man charged after alleged theft of motorcycle near Morisset

A man has been charged after allegedly stealing a motorcycle in the Lake Macquarie region last week.

On Friday 3 April 2015, a Yamaha motorcycle was stolen from the Wyee Point Marina Estate at Brightwaters, near Morisset.

Police from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command commenced an investigation into the theft and reviewed CCTV images.

About 11.50am yesterday (Tuesday 7 April 2015), officers arrested a 35-year-old man on Kimbul Road. He was taken to Toronto Police Station, where he was charged with stealing a motor vehicle.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear before Toronto Local Court on Wednesday 6 May 2015.

Police appeal after woman robbed near local business in Toronto, Lake Macquarie

Police are appealing for information after a woman was robbed near a local business in Toronto, Lake Macquarie, overnight.

About 8pm (Saturday 4 April 2015), a 28-year-old woman gathered the takings from a business on The Boulevarde, before walking a short distance toward her unit on Cook Street.

While walking along a balcony on the second floor of the unit block, the woman was approached by a man who grabbed her bag containing the takings and fled the location.

Witnesses chased the man toward Cary Street before losing sight of him.

The woman was not injured during the incident.

Officers attached to Lake Macquarie Local Area Command were contacted and launched an investigation into the incident.

A crime scene was established and local police, with assistance from the Dog Unit, conducted an extensive search of the surrounding area but the man was not found.

Inquiries into the matter are continuing and police would now like to speak to a man who may be able to assist in the investigation.

The man is described as having a dark complexion, aged in his early 30s, about 180cm tall, with a thin build and he was last seen wearing a black hooded top.

Man charged with kidnapping and assault – Maitland

A man has been charged after an alleged kidnapping and assault in Maitland overnight.

About 11pm (Thursday 2 April 2015), police will allege a 20-year-old man attended a High Street, Maitland to meet someone and was allegedly assaulted by a 27-year-old man and forced into the boot of a car.

He was allegedly being driven to Rutherford but has managed to free himself from the boot while it was moving, suffering minor injuries.

The 20-year-old man ran to a nearby home and police were called.

About 4.15am today (Friday 3 April 2015), Central Hunter Detectives arrested a 27-year-old man.

He has been charged with kidnapping and assault and granted conditional bail to appear before Maitland Local Court Thursday 9 April 2015.

Inquiries are continuing.

Fatal collision – Port Macquarie

Police are investigating after a fatal collision near Port Macquarie today.

About 9.30am (Tuesday 31 March 2015), emergency services were called to Hastings River Drive, about three kilometres west of Port Macquarie.

Police have been told a small sedan driving east collided with a west-bound garbage truck.

The driver of the car, a 17-year-old female, died at the scene. A young child travelling with her has been taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

No-one else was injured in the crash. However, the driver of the garbage truck has also been taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.

An investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Specialist crash investigators are on scene.

Police will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.

Twelve year old boy dies after being struck by car – Port Stephens

A 12-year-old boy has died after being struck by a vehicle in the Port Stephens area yesterday.

About 4pm (Monday 30 March 2015) the boy was travelling on a school bus when it stopped outside an address on Marsh Road, Bobs Farm.

The boy got off the bus and as he crossed the road he was struck by a Triton Ute, being driven by a 19-year-old man.

He sustained critical injuries and died on the way to hospital.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to Calgary Mater Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.

Inquiries are continuing.

Protestor charged near Newcastle

A woman has been charged after allegedly failing to move from railway lines in Newcastle this morning.

Just after 7.10am (Monday 30 March 2015), police were called to a railway line near Mangrove Street, Sandgate, about 10km northwest of Newcastle, following reports of a woman on the railway track.

On arrival, officers attached to Newcastle City Local Area Command found a woman who had an apparatus attached to her body and the railway lines.

Officers asked the woman to leave the tracks; however she allegedly declined.

Just before 10am, rescue officers released the woman, aged 54, from the apparatus. She was uninjured during the incident and arrested at the scene, before being taken to Waratah Police Station.

The woman has been charged with cause obstruction to railway locomotive, and go onto or remain on running lines. She has been granted conditional bail, to appear at 16 April 2015 at Newcastle Local Court.

Man charged with allegedly indecently assaulting boy – Police Transport Command

A man has been charged after allegedly indecently assaulting a 13-year-old boy on a train yesterday.

About 4.40pm (Saturday 28 March 2015), police will allege a 48-year-old man sat next to the boy and his two friends on a Newcastle bound train.

The man allegedly offered the boy alcohol before indecently assaulting the boy.

The boy and his friends stood up and walked away from the man, who started to follow the group before being stopped by another passenger.

Police were notified of the incident and met the train at Woy Woy Railway Station and arrested the man.

He was taken to Gosford Police Station and charged with indecent assault upon person under 16, common assault and stalk / intimidation.

He was granted strict bail conditions to appear before Gosford Local Court on Tuesday 31 March 2015.

Man charged following police pursuit – Medowie, Port Stephens

A man been charged following an alleged pursuit in Medowie last night.

About 10pm (Saturday 29 March 2015), Traffic and Highway Patrol Command officers attached to Port Stephens Highway Patrol observed a white Holden Commodore allegedly travelling above the speed limit along Medowie Road.

Officers attempted to pull over the vehicle and when the vehicle failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.

The vehicle travelled north along Medowie Road and then east along Richardson Road where it allegedly reached speeds over 200km/h.

A short time later, the vehicle clipped a gutter on Nelson Bay Road which caused tyre damage. The 31-year-old driver allegedly ran from the vehicle and was arrested by police after a short foot pursuit.

Police searched the man and allegedly located a small quantity of a prohibited drug suspected of being methylamphetamine (“ice”).

The man was taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station and charged with several offences:

– police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly (‘Skye’s Law’);

– exceed speed over 10km/h;

– possess prohibited drug;

– drive while licence suspended;

– custody of knife in public place

As the man was the registered owner, the numberplates of the vehicle were also confiscated for a three-month period.

The man was refused bail to appear before Maitland Local Court on Sunday 29 March 2015.

Trail bike operation – Lake Macquarie

Police have conducted a trail bike operation in the Lake Macquarie area yesterday, issuing five infringement notices for unlicensed and unregistered bikes.

These operations run throughout the year, targeting illegal activity in and around national parks and reserves.

Between 6am and 4pm yesterday (Saturday 28 March 2015) police conducted a trail bike operation in Fraser Park, Birdie Beach, Pinnies Beach, Catherine Hill Bay, Caves Beach, Red Head Beach, and Black Smiths Beach (including Belmont Wetlands).

Police issued infringement notices to four riders for unregistered quad bikes and one trail bike rider was issued an infringement notice for being an unlicensed rider.

In addition police located a stolen vehicle in the northern section of the Belmont Wetlands /Dunes and a stolen vehicle in the old Quarry area, west of Caves Beach.
