A 29-year-old man has been charged after an incident in which two police officers were allegedly assaulted this morning in Newcastle.

About 3.50am, police were speaking with the occupants of a vehicle in King Street on an unrelated matter.

A witness has approached the two police officers and pointed towards the man who was allegedly standing outside a nearby fast-food outlet, exposing himself and swearing at passers-by.

The female and male constables spoke with the man and asked him to stop swearing several times. The man ignored the requests and the police officers gave him a move-along direction.

Police will allege the man also ignored the direction and was placed under arrest.

The man resisted and ran from police. When police caught up with the man he allegedly threw multiple punches at the male officer but was taken to the ground.

The male constable was then allegedly kicked by the man and the female officer also assaulted.

The man was brought under control by the officers and conveyed to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with assault police (x2), resist police and offensive language.

The man was granted conditional bail and is due to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 12 February 2015.

Both constables sustained minor scratches and abrasions and have since returned to duty.

A man has been charged with murder after an assault in a backyard on the state’s Hunter Region overnight.

About 5pm (Friday 9 January, 2015) a man was visiting his elderly mother at her house in Main Road, Cardiff when an argument occurred between the 50-year-old and a 57-year-old neighbour.

The 57-year-old man entered the backyard and allegedly assaulted the 50-year-old, punching and kicking him to his face and body, before returning to his house.

A friend took the 50-year-old to Maitland Hospital where he died.

Police were called and a crime scene was established.

At 10.20pm (Friday 9 January, 2015) a 57-year-old man was arrested at his home in Cardiff and taken to Charlestown Police Station.

He was charged with murder to appear in Newcastle Local Court today (Saturday 10 January, 2015).

A man has been charged following a police pursuit near Lake Macquarie last night (Thursday 8 January 2015).

About 8.30pm police from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command attempted to stop a white Toyota Hilux on Anzac Parade, Teralba, that was seen allegedly driving erratically.

The driver, a 34-year-old Tighes Hill man, allegedly failed to stop and a pursuit was commenced.

The vehicle was pursued into Creek Reserve Road, Boolaroo, a dead-end street, where it stopped and the driver was arrested after allegedly resisting.

During a search of the vehicle police found and seized a number of items allegedly stolen from a store in Glendale earlier in the evening as well as cannabis.

Further enquiries revealed the driver to be disqualified from driving until 2029.

The driver was taken to Toronto Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit not stop drive recklessly (Skye’s Law), drive whilst disqualified, possess prohibited drug, shoplifting, and resist arrest.

He was bail refused and will appear at Toronto Local Court today.

A man is due to face court after allegedly being detected in possession of the drugs ‘ice’ and cannabis aboard a train in Newcastle.

About 2pm yesterday (Thursday 8 January, 2015), Police Transport Command officers, assisted by the Dog Unit, were conducting an operation at Broadmeadow Railway Station

Officers boarded a train, which was travelling between Central and Grafton, and spoke with a 47-year-old man on board.

A subsequent search found the man to allegedly be in possession of 21 resealable bags containing methylamphetamine, or ice, and four further bags containing cannabis.

He was arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with supplying a prohibited drug – indictable quantity, and possession of a prohibited drug.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in Newcastle Local Court today (Friday 9 January 2015).

Lake Macquarie Local Area Command is launching a new side-by-side all-terrain vehicle.

Superintendant Brett Greentree will unveil the new addition at Charlestown Police Station today (Friday 9 January 2015).

The vehicle, which was purchased with a government grant, will enhance the local area command’s overall search and rescue capabilities in navigating difficult terrain and challenging conditions.

It will enable police to conduct extensive coastline searches during ocean rescues, with improved access to sand dune areas.

The new addition will advance land search capabilities; particularly within the adjoining state forests and national parks.

Officers attached to field operations will also be able to patrol previously inaccessible areas and potentially apprehend offenders who’ve fled into off-road regions.

A man is due in court tomorrow charged over an alleged home invasion and assault in the Hunter at the weekend.

Police have been told it was about 10.40pm Sunday (4 January 2015), that a 20-year-old man allegedly entered a home on King Street, Waratah West.

A 19-year-old man inside the home sustained a 5cm cut to his head and bruising after he was allegedly hit with a metal pole or pipe.

Police from Newcastle City Local Area Command were called to the scene and initiated an investigation.

At 11.30am today (Thursday 8 January 2015), a 20-year-old Mayfield man was arrested at Newcastle Police Station.

He has been charged with aggravated break and enter and commit assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear in Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 12 February 2015.

A member of the Bandidos outlaw motorcycle gang (OMCG) will appear in court following an alleged aggravated break-in at Fishing Point near Lake Macquarie yesterday.

About 2.30pm (Wednesday 7 January 2015), two men allegedly broke the front door and entered a home on Sealand Parade, Fishing Point.

They allegedly stole a number of items including; watches, alcohol and cash before leaving in a silver Audi sedan.

Police were called and Lake Macquarie Local Area Command attended commencing an investigation.

Inquiries lead officers to a home on Lakeview Close, Teralba, where they located a silver Audi sedan and a man entering the car.

The 21-year-old man was arrested and the car was searched.

Investigators will allege they located property from the Fishing Point home and over 180 grams of cannabis in the Audi.

The man was taken to Charlestown Police Station and charged with aggravated break and enter (in company), possess prohibited drug, supply prohibited drug and owner not disclose identity of driver/passenger.

He was given strict conditional bail to appear at Belmont Local Court on Wednesday 28 January 2015.

Investigations into the incident are continuing and officers are appealing for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.

A man is due to appear in Newcastle Local Court tomorrow charged with multiple offences relating to alleged break and enters in the Lake Macquarie area.

Police from Lake Macquarie have been investigating a range of offences committed over the past few months.

Following those investigations, police attached to the Lake Macquarie Special Operations and Lake Macquarie Detectives went to a home in Yertala Crescent, Windale, about 9.45am today (Tuesday 6 January 2015). Police will allege a man was found hiding in the roof cavity.

He was arrested a 23-year-old man and took him to Charlestown Police Station where he was charged with 27 offences including aggravated break and enter, goods in custody, dishonestly obtain benefit by deception, larceny, and possess a prohibited drug.

He was refused bail to appear in Newcastle Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 7 January 2015).
