Police searching for two men near Wagga Wagga have reminded locals of the need to be vigilant and to contact Triple Zero immediately if they spot the men.

Shortly after 2pm today (Friday 16 October 2015), police from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command attempted to stop a silver Nissan Navara 4WD on the Henty to Cookardinia Road, Mangoplah.

When the vehicle failed to stop, a pursuit was commenced.

A short time later, on the Kreutzbergers Road, one of the two men travelling in the car shot at the police car; one of the bullets hit the front grill of the police vehicle, forcing the highway patrol car to stop.

The pursuit was temporarily terminated before it was resumed about 2.25pm by other police vehicles. Again, the occupants of the Nissan shot at police, this time discharging a firearm at another highway patrol vehicle

The pursuit was terminated near the intersection of Pulletop Road and Cheviot Hills Road, Pulletop, and police set up a command centre at the location.

No police were injured.

A large scale search of the location commenced and around 7.15pm, police located the Nissan in bushland off the Hume Highway, about 5km south of Tumbarumba Road.

Stirke Force Kalkadoon has been formed to manage the search and investigation, and comprises a large number of officers from local and specialist commands based in the southern region of NSW.

The Victoria Police Air Wing is also assisting.

The search is expected to run throughout the night.

Police believe the two men in the car may be Gino and Mark Stocco, a father and son from Queensland, who are wanted in a number of Australian states for a range of alleged criminal offences.

In the most current photos police have on file, Gino Stocco is depicted as having grey hair, a grey beard and brown eyes. He is 58 years of age.

The most recent photo police have of Mark Stocco, depicts him as having dark brown, medium-length hair, a dark brown beard and brown eyes. He is 35 years of age.

Police are warning the public to contact Triple Zero (‘000’) immediately if they see either of the two men. Under no circumstances should members of the public approach the men, who are considered armed and dangerous.

Police are investigating a child approach near Albury.

About 3.45pm yesterday (Thursday 15 October 2015), an eight-year-old boy was waiting at a bus stop at the corner of Prune and Comans Streets, Lavington, when an unknown man pulled up alongside him.

The man attempted to speak to the boy, but when the boy refused to speak to him, the driver left.

Police were notified of the incident and have commenced inquiries.

They would like to speak to a man described as being of Caucasian appearance, with a medium build and a large tattoo on his arm. The man is further described as having blonde hair and wearing sunglasses. He may be aged between 30 and 35.

A police operation is currently underway, after the occupants of a 4WD shot at police near Wagga Wagga this afternoon.

The two male occupants allegedly shot at the police car before fleeing.

A pursuit was commenced, however was terminated a short time later.

A pursuit was recommenced when the vehicle was again sighted on Cheviott Hills Road, near the intersection of Pulletopp Road, Mangoplah.

The occupants again shot at police before fleeing.

No one was injured during the incidents.

A large scale operation is currently underway as police search for the vehicle and occupants.

Police are alerting the public, not to approach but to notify police via Triple Zero (‘000’), immediately if the vehicle is sighted.
