Police have located and seized a firearm found in a vehicle after a crash east of Wagga Wagga early yesterday morning.
Just after 1am (Saturday 21 November 2015), police and emergency services were called to Sturt Highway, Borambola, following reports a white Nissan Pulsar had crashed.
The 24-year-old male driver was treated at the scene by Ambulance paramedics for minor injuries.
Police located cash on the man and a Browning semi-automatic 9mm pistol and ammunition in his vehicle. The items were seized.
The Ambarvale man was arrested and taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital for further treatment before being taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station.
He was charged with possess pistol, possess unregistered firearm, not keep firearm safely, possess ammunition, goods in personal custody suspected being stolen, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, and drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous.
He has been refused bail to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court later today (Sunday 22 November 2015).
Police from Wagga Wagga Local Area Command were also told there were two female passengers in the car at the time of the crash.
Officers conducted an extensive search of the area at the time of the crash; however the women were not located.
The pair later presented to Wagga Wagga Police Station where they assisted detectives with their inquiries.
