A man will appear in court this month charged with a number of offences following an alleged pursuit in Goulburn last year.
Police will allege in court that just before 6.30am on Monday 9 November 2015, officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were conducting speed enforcement duties on the Hume Highway, Goulburn, when they detected a BMW M5 sedan travelling at 194km/h.
Officers activated their lights and sirens and followed the vehicle; however, the driver failed to stop.
The BMW allegedly reached speeds of up to 240km/h, and the pursuit was terminated for safety reasons.
During the pursuit, police received information from a truck driver who witnessed the incident, via the UHF radio.
Officers continued their patrols and found the BMW sedan on Westbourne Road, Berrimangra, with two people inside the car.
It will be alleged in court that when police approached the car, the driver began to drive away, however his vehicle broke down after about 100 metres.
A 23-year-old man has been charged with police pursuit (Skye’s Law), possess prohibited drug (x2) and resist officer in execution of duty. He has been refused bail and is due to attend court again on Friday 26 February 2016.
Police have released images of a car on the basis that it might be recognised by the truck driver who provided information via the radio during the pursuit. The truck driver can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
