Wagga Wagga Civic Theatre

Circa’s Helpmann Award-winning ensemble creation, “S” is a full-throttle ride to the limits of the human body.

Based on the 19th letter of the English Alphabet, “S” fuses group acrobatics with intimate emotions.

Artistic Director Yaron Lifschitz was inspired to create an abstract work of power and joy – inspired by the curves, symmetries and plurality that are all attributes of this one letter.

From Brisbane, Australia comes a bold new vision of contemporary circus.

A blending of bodies, light, sound and skills. A place where acrobatics and movement meld into a seamless whole. A celebration of the expressive possibilities of the human body at its extremes.

Since 2006 Circa has toured to 26 countries across six continents. Critics have raved about its shows calling the work “stunning…exquisite… heartstopping” and “electrically charged”.

State of Mind explores the complex relationship between mind and body, thought and emotion, illness and well being. It draws on a personal journey through pain, loss and grief. The works include a combination of figurative drawings, paintings, and automatic writings using ink, charcoal and mixed media onto differing surfaces such as paper, canvas and reclaimed perspex. Informed by her background as a physiotherapist, Lieng Lay’s expressive works of the figure capture the physicality of the human form.

Goulburn Police launch their inaugural 'dob in a drug dealer day'

Goulburn Police have launched a campaign encouraging the public to ‘dob in a drug dealer’ by calling Crime Stoppers.

The local operation, being run for one day on Tuesday 25 March 2014, is part of a police crackdown on drug supply. The community will have the opportunity to speak to a police officer between 7am and 7pm on this day.

Detective A/Inspector Matt Woods from Goulburn Local Area Command said it is important to speak up if you know something about drug supply in your local area.

“On Tuesday 25 March 2014, the community is urged to contact Goulburn Police on 4824 0737 if they have information about the supply or growing of drugs.

“This day has been formed to make it a priority for those in the community who know something, to say something. Now is the time.

“Police are committed to taking drugs off our streets. If you have information that can help please call Goulburn Police on 4824 0737 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Information supplied will be treated with the strictest of confidence and callers are able to remain anonymous if they wish,” he said.

“Drugs in our community have a devastating effect on the community and are predominately linked to serious and violent crimes in the area.

“There is no acceptable use of drugs – the message is clear, we all play a part in relation to the observations of those engaged in drug supply – any information is considered important to our investigations.

“Do your bit to stop drug dealing in our town on Tuesday 25 March 2014,” Detective A/Inspector Woods said.

Steam Train Ready to Roll from Goulburn to Junee

The Lachlan Valley Railway commences their steam season this Friday with a run from Goulburn to Junee, to position the train for the Junee Rhythm and Rail festival over the weekend.

“The LVR has been part of Rhythm and Rail in the past with our “Tin Hare” railmotors, so we are very excited to add steam to the program this year” said LVR Secretary Treasurer John Healey.

The tour is being run with the assistance of the Powerhouse Museum, who will provide steam locomotive 3265 for the tour. Built from the 1892 and 1911, the P(6) class as they were known prior to 1924, were NSW’s crack express passenger locomotive of the era and continued in service until the end of steam in the 1970’s.

The festival train departs Goulburn at 11.30am on Friday 7th March, stopping at Yass Junction, Harden and Cootamundra before arriving into Junee just before the 6pm opening to the festival. One-way fares are available for each of these sectors of the journey, with the trip timed to connect with the northbound XPT to bring passenger up from Junee and Cootamundra to Harden, and return Yass and Goulburn passengers home.

The steam train will then be operating shuttles between Junee and Wagga Wagga over the weekend, while the 1920’s CPH Railmotors will run between Cootamundra and Junee for the Rhythm and Rail Festival. The following weekend sees the train head to Albury on Friday 14th March for the weekend of the 15th and 16th March.
