Simon Tedeschi joins the Sydney Youth Orchestra for the second concert in the 2014 subscription series at City Recital Hall. Playing Grieg’s Piano Concerto, one of his few large scale works, Tedeschi adds his experience to the vibrancy of the youth orchestra in what promises to be an exceptional night for concertgoers.
The concert begins with the Overture from Glinka’s Russlan and Ludmilla. Quite a curtain-raiser, bursting forth with an assertive motto for brass, winds and timpani, it is a uniquely Russian combination of earthy exuberance and heroic feeling. The strings develop the piece into a lyrical passage and together the orchestra brings the piece to a rousing conclusion.
Finally, enjoy the uplifting sounds of Dvorak’s Symphony from the New World. This work was number 6 on the ABC’s Classic 100 and features one of the best known largo melodies of all time. This concert featuring the Sydney Youth Orchestra, conducted by Max McBride and featuring Simon Tedeschi will be one to remember. Book your tickets today. |
