The Lachlan Valley Railway (LVR) have announced their upcoming steam tour in the Riverina. Dubbed “The Spiral Flyer,” lunch and dinner trips from Cootamundra to Junee are on offer, with connections from Temora and Stockinbingal aboard it’s Vintage CPH Railmotors. The train will run on the 11th and 12th October.
“We have been keen to come back to Cootamundra with steam, and I’m thrilled the opportunity has finally presented itself,” said LVR Secretary Treasurer John Healey. “Cootamundra has been a great support to us over the years as home to our CPH Railmotors, so it’s a great thing for us to bring our steam locos to town”
The LVR came through Cootamundra in March this year with Powerhouse Museum’s locomotive 3265 (pronounced Thirty-Two Sixty-Five) on the way to and from Albury. However, this will be the first time that the LVR’s own steam locomotives have been in Cootamundra since 2009.
Rides are available on the heritage CPH Railmotors from Temora and Stockinbingal to Cootamundra. Passengers then board the steam train hauled by steam locomotive 5917 (pronounced Fifty-Nine Seventeen) to the famous railway town of Junee where they have two hours to enjoy lunch or dinner. The train will return to Cootamundra, traversing the famous Bethungra Spiral, to meet the connecting CPH Railmotors back to Stockinbingal and Temora.
