Police have commenced an investigation after a man died in Newcastle this morning.

Just after 3am (Saturday 7 March 2015), officers attached the Newcastle City Local Area Command were called to a home on Dickson Street, following reports of a man being injured.

On arrival, police located a man suffering a gunshot wound. He was unable to be revived at the scene.

A crime scene has been established and officers attached to State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad are assisting local police with investigations.

Police have received no other reports of injury.

Inquiries into events leading up to the incident are continuing.

Detectives are asking that anyone who may have seen someone acting suspiciously in the vicinity of Dickson Street around 3am, to call Newcastle Police or Crime Stoppers.
