Police from Newcastle City Local Area Command are investigating the death of a man in a home in Mayfield yesterday.

At 1.50pm (Sunday 8 March 2015), emergency services were called to a home on Kerr Street following reports of a man being injured. Police arrived to find a 71-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his chest; he died at the scene.

A crime scene was established at the house and examined by specialist forensic officers with detectives continuing investigations into the matter.
