After four races in the Vic V8s Series at the weekend, Wangaratta driver Damien Gambold left Winton Motor Raceway with a satisfied feeling.
The 24 year old finished third overall in the series’ round one hit-out at the Victorian Motor Racing Championship, and Gambold said it was “very unexpected” to come away with his best result to date.
Gambold, steering his Ford Falcon XD, crossed the line in fifth, fourth, and then third in the last two races respectively while he was forced to fight through the field in the final race.
“I was very surprised, we were hoping to run mid-pack but to finish third overall, a bit of luck went my way but I’m still very happy,” Gambold said.
“A few people had problems and I had one guy spin in front of me so that gave me another position.
“In the last race I ended up seventh, I stalled at the start of the race, but managed to work my way back to fourth on the first lap.”
