A 20-year-old man has had his car seized, his licence suspended and will face court on numerous charges after leading police on a pursuit while under the influence of alcohol.

Around 3am today (Sunday 28 February 2016), police observed a red Holden Commodore ute travelling at high speeds on Crookwell Road, Goulburn.

The speed of the car was checked and found to be travelling at 203km/h in a 100km/h zone.

Officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command attempted to stop the vehicle; when the driver failed to do so, a pursuit was initiated.

The vehicle made a high-speed right turn into Chinamans Lane, and when police followed a short time later they found the vehicle had crashed into a dirt embankment. The driver had fled the vehicle on foot but was arrested by officers after they found him hiding in a nearby paddock a short time later.

The man, a P2 Licence holder, was arrested and taken to Goulburn Police Station where a breath analysis revealed he had a blood-alcohol reading of 0.124; the legal limit for P-platers is zero.

The 20-year-old was subsequently charged with:

– Police pursuit (Skye’s Law);

– Mid-range drink-driving; and,

– Exceed speed limit by more than 45km/h.

His car was confiscated for a period of three months, and his license was suspended with immediate effect.

Conditionally bailed, he is due before Goulburn Local Court on 22 March 2016.
