Two men have been charged after a woman was robbed with a firearm in Newcastle today.
About 12.30pm (Wednesday 13 April 2016), a 19-year-old woman was at a bus stop on Tudor Street, Hamilton, when she was approached by two males and threatened with a handgun.
The woman handed over her purse and phone to the offenders, who fled the scene towards Broadmeadow.
A short time later, police from Newcastle City LAC detained two males nearby. The victim’s phone was allegedly found in possession of one of the men.
The two men, aged 30 and 26, were arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station. While being conveyed the 30-year-old man allegedly damaged the door of the police vehicle by kicking it.
Both men were charged with robbery in company. The older man was also charged with malicious damage.
Both were refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 14 April 2016).
The firearm allegedly used has not been located yet however inquiries will continue.
