Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was bitten by a dog at New Lambton today.
About 12.30pm (Friday 15 April 2016), an 81-year-old woman was walking her dog along Queen’s Road when she was approached by a second dog known to her.
The woman attempted to walk away, when the dog bit her and her dog a number of times.
Witnesses went to the woman’s assistance, and took control of the dog.
Ambulance Paramedics were called and assisted the injured woman, before she was taken to John Hunter Hospital, where she is expected to undergo surgery. Her dog suffered minor injuries.
The second dog has been secured and an investigation is now underway.
Officers attached to Newcastle City Local Area Command are liaising with the owner of the dog and local council in relation to the incident.
